JEC Takes Part in Upgrading Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Works

JEC Hong Kong was recently awarded a contract from Drainage Services Department for the Main Works Stage 1 of Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant. Operating for more than 30 years, the project aims to increase the treatment capacity which is approaching its maximum design capacity of 93,000m3/day with modern technologies.

The works include installation works and testing and commissioning of the electrical and mechanical sludge treatment facilities (including sludge dewatering building, combined heat and power building, sludge digesters, biogas holding tanks etc.); ultraviolet system and associated pumping station and the associated systems. To enhance its environmental performance, JEC will also be the first to install thermal hydrolysis pre-treatment system and sidestream treatment facilities in Hong Kong.

The improvement scheme of Stage 1 will increase the treatment capacity by 35,000m3/day, and eventually increase to 190,000m3/day upon completion of all stages. The project has commenced in late October and is expected to be completed in 2024.
