In celebration of JEC centennial, JEC partnered with Hong Kong Children and Youth Service to bring joy to the children and youth over the past two weekends. Teenagers aged 6 to 12 years old from the association joined the activities and teamed up with the volunteers to complete the tasks. Volunteers helped provide training for the youth, stimulate their thinking and cultivate their enthusiasm for learning. The Volunteering Day demonstrated JEC’s commitment towards giving back to society.

JEC Joined Forces to Plant Trees for Jardines 190th Anniversary

JEC held a Tree Planting Volunteering Day on 16 July 2022 to celebrate the 190th anniversary of Jardines.

35 volunteers from JEC, including their families and friends joined the activity to contribute to the sustainable development of forest in Hong Kong. Before tree planting began, volunteers learned about the background of the ongoing tree restoration project, the value of native trees and how the project can help with Hong Kong’s biodiversity. With the professional guidance, the team planted 70 saplings in different native species on the northern slope of Tai Mo Shan.

The ongoing tree restoration experiment project in Hong Kong aims to rebuild the secondary forest on the hill slopes that have been destroyed by farming and human activities over the past decades and increase the biodiversity of the forest in Hong Kong. The tree planting activity demonstrated JEC’s commitment towards environment conservation.

JEC Takes Part In Upgrading Yuen Long Sewage Treatment Works

JEC has been awarded a significant contract by Drainage Service Department to carry out electrical and mechanical works for Yuen Long Effluent Polishing Plant Stage 1 (YLEPP).

The project is an upgrade project of the existing Yuen Long Sewage Treatment Works. This iconic project will be transformed to tertiary treatment level to meet the growing development needs of the region and minimise adverse environmental impact on Deep Bay ecosystem. The scopes of work include electrical and mechanical works for sludge dewatering building, administration building and renewable energy facilities for Stage 1 of Yuen Long Effluent Polishing Plant. After the completion of overall improvement plan, the treatment capacity will be increased from 70,000m³/day to 150,000m³/day .

One of the design features of YLEPP will maximise the potential of energy generation. JEC will install renewable energy facilities, including extensive provision of PV system and 3 high-efficient CHP system generating sets. YLEPP will become one of the largest solar power generation facilities in Hong Kong upon commissioning. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant Project Achieves BEAM Plus Provisional Platinum Rating

Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant project has accredited the highest rank “Provisional Platinum” rating under the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2 (NB V1.2) assessment.

The project is the first plant using reverse osmosis to produce fresh water from seawater in Hong Kong. With a daily water production capacity of 135 million litres per day, the plant will collect seawater from Joss House Bay (Tai Miu Wan) and extract water from seawater through the proven filtration and reverse osmosis technology. The project will enable the city to tackle the challenges posed by low levels of precipitation as well as provide the city with a Strategic Water Resource which is not Susceptible to the Impact of Climate Change.

BEAM PLUS is an independent assessment that recognizes project developer’s commitment to providing a strong sustainable focus in design and construction of the building and the creation of liveable environment. The project received a high score with more than 80% of scores were given to energy use and water consumption efficiency as well as good indoor environmental quality.  We will continue our commitment to green and sustainable development to create a better place for our next generation.

JEC Releases the First Sustainability Report

JEC is pleased to present Sustainability Report 2021 which was published today. With the theme ‘Sustainability as a Business Driver’, the inaugural report outlines the Company’s approach to establish sustainability as the DNA of business practices through 4 core elements – People, Environment, Innovation and Governance. It also highlights JEC’s goals for making a positive impact in communities.

The report is the major milestone for JEC to make a big step towards sustainability. The Sustainability Strategy and 3-year Action Plan identify a number of opportunities for the Company to drive forward and to engage stakeholders in meaning ways to expand the dialogue.

JEC wins three awards under “HKIBIM Awards 2021”

JEC has won 3 awards at HKIBIM Awards 2021. HKIBIM Award 2021 is organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) to recognise our outstanding performance in applying advanced BIM technology in Hong Kong.

The three awards include the gold award for O‧PARK 2 project and the bronze award for Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant project, both of which fall under the Government Projects Category. The third award is a Sliver Awards in BIM initiatives category for BIM project with Hilti.

JEC Sets Up the First Pilot Biochar Production Plant in Hong Kong

JEC was recently awarded the contract to set up and operate the first Pilot Biochar Production Plant (PBPP) in EcoPark, an initiative to explore a more comprehensive and long-term development direction for handling local woody waste by the HKSAR Government.

Located in Tuen Mun, PBPP converts woody waste into biochar after processing. With its carbon molecules-retaining feature, biochar on the one hand can reduce carbon emissions to help achieve the carbon neutrality vision under Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050, and on the other hand has many applications including serving as a soil conditioner, an adsorption material for filtering pollutants, a composting enhancer and a building material additive. The plant expected to process around 6,000 tonnes of local woody waste and produce about 1,200 tonnes of biochar per year.

JEC Joins Hands with Industry Partners to Promote BIM Application

JEC collaborates with Hilti, WSP Asia, BYME Engineering (HK) and Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong to launch BIM with HILTI, a 10-month training programme in August 2021 for younger engineers to learn about the efficiency of BIM in construction and new BIM technologies via a series of activities including virtual tour to Hilti BIM Experience Center, software training & application, BIM2FIELD workshops and factory visit.

Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant Project Captures Green Certifications

JEC has put green project management into practice at its Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant (Main Works Stage 1) project. Adhering to 5Rs concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair and Rethink), the project team implemented several upcycling initiatives such as turn coffee capsule into accessories, make fallen trees into table and phone stand, and reuse expired safety helmet as flowerpots to give the waste materials a second life. Their green effort has been recognized in the Energywi$e Certificate by Hong Kong Green Organisation Certification.

Notice of Change in Chief Executive

(Hong Kong, 26th May 2021) The Jardine Engineering Corporation Limited (“JEC”) today announces the following management change:

Kevin O’Brien, currently Chief Executive of JEC, will be moving at the end of August 2021 to succeed Thomas Ho as Chief Executive of Gammon Construction. Thomas will be retiring on 12th October 2021. In turn, Noky Wong, currently Deputy Chief Executive of Jardine Schindler Group (“JSG”), will succeed Kevin at JEC.

Kevin will commence his new role at Gammon, initially as Chief Executive (Designate), on 1st September. Kevin joined Balfour Beatty in Hong Kong in 1996 and moved to Gammon, a 50/50 joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Jardine Matheson, in 2004 where he held a number of senior roles. He was appointed Chief Executive of JEC in 2018.

Noky will start his new role as Chief Executive (Designate) of JEC on 1st July. He joined JSG in July 2003 and has since held a number of leadership roles in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Malaysia before being appointed Deputy Chief Executive of JSG in January 2020.

JEC Joins BEC Low Carbon Charter Power Up Coalition

JEC Takes Part in Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant Stage I Project

JEC with its joint venture partners was recently awarded the contract from the Water Supplies Department to design, build and operate the first stage of Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant.

Building on a 8-hectare site, the first stage of construction targets a water production capacity at 135,000m3 per day with provision for future expansion to the ultimate water production capacity up to 270,000m3 per day and associated facilities. The product water will be transferred via a fresh water main to the existing Tseung Kwan O Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir.

The desalination plant will adopt reverse osmosis technology to produce potable water complying with the Hong Kong Drinking Water Standards under local conditions. It is expected to commence operation in 2023, providing the city with a strategic water resource which is not susceptible to the impact of climate change.
