Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant project has accredited the highest rank “Provisional Platinum” rating under the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2 (NB V1.2) assessment.
The project is the first plant using reverse osmosis to produce fresh water from seawater in Hong Kong. With a daily water production capacity of 135 million litres per day, the plant will collect seawater from Joss House Bay (Tai Miu Wan) and extract water from seawater through the proven filtration and reverse osmosis technology. The project will enable the city to tackle the challenges posed by low levels of precipitation as well as provide the city with a Strategic Water Resource which is not Susceptible to the Impact of Climate Change.
BEAM PLUS is an independent assessment that recognizes project developer’s commitment to providing a strong sustainable focus in design and construction of the building and the creation of liveable environment. The project received a high score with more than 80% of scores were given to energy use and water consumption efficiency as well as good indoor environmental quality.
